Bob Newhart Tribute Special Draws Record 4.1 Million Viewers on CBS

 CBS's tribute to the legendary comedian Bob Newhart, titled “Bob Newhart: A Legacy of Laughter,” captivated 4.1 million viewers on Monday night. The “Entertainment Tonight” special celebrated Newhart's extraordinary 70-year career in comedy following his recent passing at age 94. This made the special the most-watched program in its 8 p.m. timeslot, outperforming competing shows such as NBC's “American Ninja Warrior” (2.7 million viewers), ABC's “The Bachelorette” (2.6 million viewers), Fox's “Name That Tune” (1.4 million viewers), and CW's “All American: Homecoming” (322,000 viewers). In addition to being the top-rated show of the night, excluding sports telecasts, “Bob Newhart: A Legacy of Laughter” also became the highest-viewed “Entertainment Tonight” special ever. Actor Jay Johnston Pleads Guilty Over Capitol Attack: What You Need to Know

 Jay Johnston, famed for his role on the animated series Bob’s Burgers, has recently pleaded guilty to charges stemming from his involvement in the January 6 Capitol attack. The 54-year-old actor faces serious repercussions, including up to five years in prison, following his admission of guilt to a felony count of civil disorder.

Initially released on a $25,000 bond after his arrest in California, Johnston also faces charges of felony obstruction of officers during civil disorder, unlawful entry on restricted buildings or grounds, and impeding passage through Capitol grounds. Court documents allege his participation in a mob that assaulted police officers, with video evidence showing Johnston wielding a shield taken from law enforcement.


According to FBI filings, Johnston's involvement was further corroborated by airline records detailing his round-trip flight from Los Angeles to Washington DC around the time of the riot. Johnston himself acknowledged his presence at the Capitol through incriminating text messages, describing the chaotic scene as "a mess."

Known for his roles beyond Bob’s Burgers, including appearances on HBO’s Mr Show with Bob and David and the Fox sitcom Arrested Development, Johnston is scheduled for sentencing by US district judge Carl Nichols on October 7.


The Capitol attack continues to see legal ramifications for its participants, with approximately 1,000 individuals either convicted or pleading guilty to federal charges related to the incident. This ongoing judicial process underscores the gravity of the events of January 6, with sentences ranging widely depending on the severity of individual involvement.
